About Granite

Granite has been used as a building material since ancient times. It is one of the oldest and most durable building products available. It has become the material of choice for today’s luxury homes and offices because of its enduring beauty and because no synthetic material can compare to its elegance and performance.

Granite is believed to have been formed as long ago as 300 million years. It began as a mass of molten rock formed by volcanic activity about 11-12 miles underground. Forces of nature caused the magma to gradually rise to the surface, where it began to cool very slowly over the next million years or so, solidifying into granite.

Dimensional granite specs include high load bearing capacity, amenability to cutting without secondary flaws, ability to yield thin and large slabs and – above all – durability. Granite is a very strong and durable stone. It takes heavy gloss polish, popularly used as architectural stone for interior and exterior walls, floors and monumental stone.

Granite is the most exclusive of all building stones, and granite slabs and granite tiles occupy a prominent place among dimensional stones. Its fascinating colors, heavy gloss mirror polish, and textural patterns make granite slabs and granite tiles extremely popular.

Simple Care Instructions for Granite Countertops

Granite is a beautiful and durable material. By following a few suggestions for use, your countertops will last a lifetime while maintaining a brand-new appearance.

  • Sealing and Cleaning: We seal your countertops with a high-quality sealer that will last years. This will help prevent the absorption of any compound that can stain your tops. However, no sealer is perfect. The best way to avoid a stain is to quickly wipe off the compound in question. While stains are rare, they are caused most frequently by cooking oil. Do not store bottles of cooking oil directly on your granite. When cooking with oil, wipe clean any of the countertops that came into contact with the oil when you are finished. Do not store metal pots and pans on your countertops either, as rust can stain the granite. The sealer is not a waterproofing agent. If your granite darkens when it is wet do not be alarmed. It will return to its original color when the water evaporates. The safest way to clean your granite tops is to use products designed specifically for stone. Cleaners and disinfectants of this type are neutral on the acid scale, so they pose no risk of hurting the polish. Dish soap and water will work to clean your tops, as well as spray-on cleaners such as Windex. Avoid anything that contains bleach or any wipe-on cleaners that have grit in them. If you want to avoid water streaking while cleaning, you must wipe your tops until they are completely dry. If lime build-up occurs around your faucet, do not use lime removal products. Gently scraping the lime off with a straight razor is the best solution.
  • Avoiding Scratches: Granite is a quartz-based material and can, therefore, be scratched by quartz or anything harder. Knives will not scratch granite, although cutting on your countertops is not recommended, as your knives will dull very quickly. Diamonds will scratch granite. Removing diamond rings before cooking is recommended. Certain stoneware dishes contain rough silica sand and pose a risk of scratching. Some pizza stones will scratch granite if they are spun around while cutting the pizza. If you use a marble cutting board, make sure the rubber or plastic feet remain secure. If the marble ends up rubbing on the granite, this does pose a scratching risk.
  • Avoiding Chips: Chips in granite are not a common occurrence. Banging something on the edge of the countertop- most often causes chips. Heavy pots and pans and the bottoms of large bottles do most of the damage. Take care when you handle them around your granite. If a chip does occur and you find the piece that chipped out, save it. Most of the time it can be epoxied back into place.
  • Hot Pans: High and low temperatures will not harm granite. You can take a pan off the stove or a dish out of the oven and set it right on your countertop without damage. However, it is not recommended to make a practice out of this. If you have a seam in your countertop, it is best to avoid setting hot materials on top of it. The epoxy in the seam is heat resistant but can be melted if exposed to heat for an extended period.

An Insight Into Our Business

“Created by Nature, Perfected by Gaumats!” Gaumats International, LLC was formed in 2005 by Apul and his wife Daisy Gaumat. Apul’s knowledge of granite and marble comes from his family-owned quarries and processing plants located in India. When Apul started Gaumats International, LLC, several fabrication companies were doing similar work, but Apul wanted to do things differently by providing a better customer experience. He imported premium quality granite slabs and hired artisans fabricators.

Our main goal is to provide the best quality and workmanship to each and every customer. In 2005, Gaumats International, LLC started in a 2,600-square-foot building but shortly after grew out of that facility. We're currently located in a custom-built 10,000-square-foot building with a 2,000-square-foot showroom space. Our warehouses have beautiful slabs from around the world, and each job is custom fabricated in a state-of-the-art fabrication facility. The fabrication is completed by an Italian CNC which cuts the stone to the job specifications. Once the stone has been cut, our specialized artisans provide the finishing touches to get the product ready for installation.

As a local business, we are always trying to improve our customer experience and are always looking for a better way to serve all of our customers!
